Innovation agenda of the European Commission for five key areas

The European Commission wants to make Europe a leading innovation driver with a new European innovation agenda. The aim is to help European companies develop new technologies and make them marketable. This is necessary to meet urgent social challenges. To do this, it will be necessary to retain the best talent in Europe and recruit new talent, because this is the only way to ensure that the best companies are on site to work on technology-intensive innovations.

Another goal of the innovation agenda is that it should accompany the transformation to a sustainable Europe. Novel technological solutions to successfully address climate change are necessary. The growing threat of cyberattacks can also only be countered with the help of new technological innovations. As a result, the innovation agenda is not focused on one sector, but can be expected to have a positive impact on ALL sectors.

Specifically, 25 specific measures have been defined and can be found here. These relate to 5 defined guiding initiatives, which are:

1) Increased funding for scale-ups to encourage investment in European start-ups in the area of technology-intensive innovation.

2) Awarding public contracts and establishing experimental spaces with the aim of enabling innovation.

3) Creating regional spaces for innovation to accelerate and strengthen innovation in European innovation ecosystems across the EU.

4) Initiatives to promote, attract and retain talent in the technology-intensive sector.

5) Improved policy instruments and policy coordination at the European level.

Thus, a true European single market for research and innovation should be created to drive technology-intensive innovation in Europe.
